HTA selects ICONNECT to market Hawaii in Korea (The Business Journals)

The Hawaii Tourism Authority has selected ICONNECT to market Hawaii as a destination in Korea. HTA, the state's tourism agency, reissued the request for proposal in November when it did not originally find a contractor.
ICONNECT is based in Seoul, South Korea and is a new marketing and communications company, but its staff has more than 20 years of experience promoting Hawaii in Korea.
"We are confident that ICONNECT will help to grow our Korean visitor market under the direction of Emily Kim, former marketing director of the current Hawaii Tourism Korea contractor," said David Uchiyama, HTA vice president of brand management, in a statement. "As a seasoned veteran of the tourism industry with more than 20 years of experience, Emily has helped to enhance the destination brand and increase visitor arrivals from Korea year-over-year, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with her new company."
ICONNECT's contract begins on Jan. 1 and expires on Dec. 31, 2015, with an option to extend for up to three additional one-year periods. HTA's current contractor, Aviareps Marketing, Garden has represented Hawaii as Hawaii Tourism Korea since 2004 and will manage the contract until today.
Since Korea entered the U.S. visa waiver program in 2008, visitor spending and arrivals have increased year over year. This year, visitor arrivals from the country are expected to reach 194,870, a 10 percent increase from 2013, and spending will reach $366.6 million, a 10.6 percent gain.
